When Words are Forgotten (Gateway)  2018

When Words are Forgotten (2nd iteration)
When Words are Forgotten (2018 Gateway)

‘When words are forgotten’ is primarily a response to the experience of standing on the sites of lost libraries, imaging their form and contents, as I did over 2016-17. Each time I am invited to show the work, I take the grid of shelves and create an imaginary library for the place and time of the presentation.

It is a library without words, a library of assembled glass sheets, each uniquely tinting the perception of the viewer. I am thinking about the power of books to colour and distort our perceptions and also the fragility of books and of the structures of knowledge that they represent.
